Healing Your Heart Walls

Our hearts are vulnerable to emotional injury, and a hurting heart does not feel warm and heartful. Emotions such as sadness, anger, and fear get stuck in the body. Sometimes, emotions, especially grief, can lodge in the heart.
Dr. Bradley Nelson, author of The Emotion Code, coined the term "heart wall." Dr. Nelson explains that painful emotions can collect around the heart, building a wall of energy to "protect" the heart from further emotional pain.
Yet, a heart wall can adversely affect you in two ways. First, it blocks your heart energy from flowing throughout your body to love yourself. Second, it can block you from fully opening your heart to loving and receiving love from others.
Heart Wall Exercise
Consider that a heart wall is an emotional shield meant to protect you. When traumatic or negative events impact your heart, a heart wall is created to block future negative emotions from harming you.
Yet, as time passes, your heart wall can energetically grow thicker and increasingly hold you back from loving and being loved.
Write about your heart wall: Sense into the hurts you have experienced. Write down any hurtful experience that pops into your mind. Sense what your heart wall is trying to protect you from.
Draw your heart wall: What does your heart wall look like? Envision how thick your heart wall is. Also, imagine what your heart wall is made of. For example, is it constructed of concrete, bricks, ice, or wire? Draw a picture of your heart wall.
How has your heart wall shut you down? How has your heart wall held you back? What feelings of hurt do you habitually feel? For example, do you feel victimized, regretful, withheld, guilty or sad?
Ask for heart healing: Ask your intuition how you can start clearing your heart wall. Sense a small step you can take today to heal your heart.
